Canada: Corporations Cannot Suffer Cruel and Unusual Treatment or Punishment

The Supreme Court of Canada handed down its highly awaited decision in Quebec (Attorney General) v 9147-0732 Québec inc. For the first time, the Court decided that corporations cannot claim the protection of section 12 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which provides that “everyone has the right not to be subjected to any cruel and unusual treatment or punishment.”
