Tell us about your practice:

I primarily advise on insolvency and financial restructuring matters, together with all related litigation. By way of illustration, I frequently work with the various stakeholders in our formal insolvency processes including examinership, liquidation, receivership and bankruptcy and I represent insolvency office-holders (both in court and out of court). In addition, I advise companies and their officers in relation to solvency issues, both in terms of personal risk and their duties and obligations as directors.

I also advise secured creditors and senior lenders, financial institutions, trade creditors and investors in formal insolvency processes and informal work-out arrangements. Insolvency and restructuring work in Ireland is frequently cross-border and I have been involved in a range of sectors, including retail, hospitality, financial services, construction, manufacturing, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals and travel/leisure.

These matters can often become contentious and, as such, I am often involved in insolvency related litigation.

What do you enjoy about your participation in WLG?

As a relatively new participant (and aside from the wonderful opportunity to travel to South Africa and Vietnam this year) I have really enjoyed my participation in a non-practice area specific conference. Having been attending insolvency conferences for over 15 years, it is really refreshing to attend working sessions that are management and business development focused, with senior participation from all of the member firms. Furthermore, as the number of delegates is comparatively small, I have found it easy to get to know people in a fairly short period of time.

What do you like to do in your spare time:

Although my enthusiasm has somewhat lapsed in the past year, I had been enjoying training for and participating (not competing!) in half marathons. Since I was young, I have always loved to travel and that remains one of my greatest enjoyments. Happily, I have had the opportunity to combine running and traveling and almost all of my half marathons have been in various European cities which has made for very enjoyable long weekends. It might be something to put on my new year’s resolutions list.
