Argentina creates the Artificial Intelligence Unit for Security
By Resolution 710/2024 of the Ministry of Security, published in the Official Gazette, the Artificial Intelligence Unit for Security (UIAAS) is created. This unit will operate within the Cybercrime and Cyber Affairs Division, which is part of the Cabinet Advisory Unit, with the mission of preventing, detecting, and investigating crimes and their connections through the use of artificial intelligence.
What will be the functions of the UIAAS?
· Patrol open social networks, applications, and websites, as well as the so-called "deep web" or "dark web," for the investigation of crimes and identification of perpetrators, as well as the detection of serious security risks, within the framework of the National Constitution and current legislation.
· Identify and compare images in physical or virtual formats.
· Analyze real-time security camera footage to detect suspicious activities or identify wanted individuals using facial recognition.
· Utilize machine learning algorithms to analyze historical crime data to predict future crimes and help prevent them.
· Identify unusual patterns in computer networks and detect cyber threats before attacks occur. This includes identifying malware, phishing, and other forms of cyberattacks.
· Process large volumes of data from various sources to extract useful information and create profiles of suspects or identify links between different cases.
· Patrol extensive areas using drones, provide aerial surveillance, and respond to emergencies.
· Perform dangerous tasks, such as bomb disposal, using robots.
· Improve communication and coordination between different Federal Police and Security Forces to ensure that critical information is shared quickly and efficiently.
· Analyze activities on social networks to detect potential threats, identify criminal group movements, or foresee disturbances.
· Detect suspicious financial transactions or anomalous behaviors that could indicate illegal activities.
It will be headed by the Director of Cybercrime and Cyber Affairs and will include representatives from the Federal Police and Security Forces with relevant expertise in the field, whose members will be appointed by the highest authority of each of these forces.
