Erika Delgado Rubio Business Development Specialist Briefly describe your role at the firm. As a Business Development Specialist at Payet, Rey, Cauvi, Pérez Abogados, I oversee the firm's international strategy by analyzing key relationships and identifying opportunities for global engagement. My role includes managing our participation in international events and conferences, as well as expanding and strengthening our network of contacts, including our membership in WLG. A core part of my work is to enhance the firm's presence on the global stage, reinforcing our reputation for excellence. Payet, Rey, Cauvi, Pérez Abogados is distinguished not only by its highly skilled professionals, who specialize in a wide range of legal fields, but also by its strong commitment to human values, diversity and inclusion, and service reliability. My mission is to ensure that these qualities are recognized internationally, fostering meaningful connections that align with our long-term vision. Having joined Payet, Rey, Cauvi, Pérez Abogados in 2024 after diverse experiences in diplomacy and education, how do you leverage these varied backgrounds to bring a holistic approach to international business development? My diverse professional background has shaped the way I approach business development, allowing me to bring a dynamic and multidisciplinary perspective to the legal sector. My academic and professional journey across diplomacy, education, and international relations has given me the ability to navigate complex global networks, adapt to different cultural contexts, and foster strategic partnerships. I would define my career path with the term multipotentiality—the ability to integrate knowledge and skills from different fields to create innovative solutions. By working in both governmental and private institutions, I have developed a deep understanding of stakeholder engagement, cross-sector collaboration, and international outreach. This has allowed me to seamlessly transition into the legal industry, where strategic relationship-building is key to success. Above all, my role requires an open mind to absorb and apply legal knowledge, even though I do not come from a legal background. It also demands a collaborative approach to facilitate cross-functional work between our lawyers and the business development team. Finally, my deep commitment to excellence drives me to continuously seek opportunities that enhance the firm's international reach and strengthen its position as a leader in the legal industry. Attending the IBA Annual Conference last year must have been a great learning opportunity. How did the experience shape your professional growth, and what stood out as your biggest takeaway? Reflecting on my participation in the IBA Annual Conference in Mexico last year, I am still in awe of the experience. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and being selected to attend in support of our team during my second month at the firm was both an honor and a challenge that pushed me to grow professionally. I am deeply grateful to Carlos Patrón, Director of the Commercial Department, and Paul Manrique, our Head of Marketing, for their trust, guidance, and support throughout the event. While I had previously coordinated international trips, this was my first time assisting on-site. Experiencing the conference firsthand allowed me to fully grasp the complexities of managing a delegation's itinerary, evaluating key relationships, and handling last-minute requests with efficiency and adaptability. The fast-paced environment strengthened my problem-solving skills, boosted my confidence, and empowered me to make strategic decisions beyond my comfort zone. This experience not only expanded my professional capabilities but also reinforced my passion for international business development within the legal sector. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time (or a fun fact about you)? After receiving an Erasmus Mundus scholarship and working in education cooperation in France, I felt a strong desire to give back. Since last year, I have dedicated part of my free time to volunteering as the Country Representative for Peru in the Erasmus Mundus Association. This role allows me to promote postgraduate opportunities for Peruvians through active outreach in collaboration with the EU Delegation in Peru and other key institutions. It has been incredibly rewarding to help others access the same opportunities that shaped my own academic and professional journey. Beyond my volunteer work, I am passionate about sports, particularly swimming, cycling, and volleyball. I also have a deep love for literature and poetry, and I am proud to have published work alongside other authors. Writing has always been a creative outlet for me, allowing me to express my thoughts and perspectives in a meaningful way.
