1. Briefly describe your practice.

I cover a broad range of practice areas with a contentious nature, including dispute resolution, regulatory and internal investigation, compliance and white-collar, and risk management.

I am among very few Chinese lawyers practicing in these areas who have very solid Chinese and American experience. In my earlier legal career, I served as a former Chinese judge and practiced as an attorney at leading US law firms in New York, Beijing, and Hong Kong for a total of six years, before eventually relocating back to a Chinese law firm to focus on PRC law practice.

I advise numerous multinational corporations with Chinese legal issues and assist Chinese companies with overseas legal matters by working with lawyers in overseas jurisdictions. My clients have hired me for their most critical and challenging legal matters, including complex litigations (such as intellectual property and antitrust) and government investigations (such as white-collar and antitrust investigations), which have multi-jurisdictional impact and need global coordination among counsels.

Due to my unique background as a former Chinese judge and an attorney admitted in China and the US, I have also been engaged as a PRC law expert in various overseas legal proceedings, and I have assisted with the discovery production and data transfer issues thereof.

2. You were recently selected as a Key Contact Partner for your firm. Can you tell us what you hope to gain through WLG participation?

WLG has been very successful with its approach of working with a single top law firm in each jurisdiction for the past 35 years. Such a network is valuable for lawyers to collaborate and benefit each other.

I will work to encourage more lawyers within my firm to participate in WLG activities and to encourage my peer KCPs in other firms to do the same. I believe this will help to create a more vibrant and active community to benefit member firms and lawyers.

3. Are there any specific topics that you look forward to learning about from WLG colleagues?

As a Chinese lawyer, I am particularly interested in learning new legal trends and developments in various jurisdictions which will have an impact on international trade and investment with China. I am also interested in how the peer firms prepare their younger generation of lawyers to grow and build their careers, so our member firms can remain as leading law firms in each jurisdiction.

4. Could you tell us about a recent client, marketing, or other collaboration with another WLG member firm?

I have been working with lawyers at WongPartnership (Singapore) on various matters before becoming aware that our firms belong to the same network of leading law firms. Now as a firm KCP, I look forward to working with colleagues at WongPartnership through WLG.

5. What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I have lived in culturally-diverse New York for a total of six years, and also in Beijing and Hong Kong for a few years before I eventually relocated to Shanghai. I am interested in international travel and experiencing different cultures. When I travel for business around the world, I will often take a quick tour to walk and bike around the cities I visit, trying to get some experience as a local resident.
