1. Describe your Practice.
As a corporate tax lawyer, I work closely with leading private and public companies, as well as pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, private equity firms and state-owned enterprises, on corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate finance matters. I also advise high-net-worth individuals on a wide variety of taxation matters. In addition to my tax planning practice, I represent taxpayers in audit matters and in disputes with the Canadian tax authorities, and act as counsel in tax litigation matters before the courts.
2. What is one relationship you've made through WLG that has been important to your practice?
My firm has developed a very good relationship with CMS over the years on a wide variety of cross-border transactions. As Canada continues to deepen its economic ties with Europe, I look forward to working further with different CMS offices across the continent.
3. Where is the first place you'd like to travel when we can travel freely again?
I try to make it to London once or twice a year for business and pleasure. In addition to being a convenient "central” location for international client meetings, it is a world class city with something new to discover every time I visit.
4. Have you recently collaborated with a WLG member firm?
Recently, I have been working closely with Bock Eng Sim at WongPartnership LLP to re-establish WLG’s Tax and Private Wealth Practice Group. We now meet regularly with a group of about a dozen tax and private wealth practitioners around the world, and are constantly looking for opportunities to collaborate and share experiences and information for the benefit of everyone in the WLG network.
