Philippines: PIArb conducts training sessions on the role of management in International Arbitration
The Philippine Institute of Arbitrators Inc. (PIArb), in cooperation with SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan (SyCipLaw), successfully conducted training sessions on the Role of Management in International Arbitration. The training sessions, which were held on February 13, 2023 at SyCipLaw Center, Makati City, were tailor-made for in-house counsel, managers, and other senior executives to give them practical advice on drafting and negotiating arbitration agreements, selecting arbitrators and external counsel, managing internal resources for arbitration proceedings, and catching settlement opportunities during arbitration. The event is the first in-person event organized by PIArb since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
SyCipLaw Partner John Regalado facilitated the training sessions on Drafting the Arbitration Agreement and Settlement Opportunities During Arbitration. The other sessions were facilitated by Jeffrey Constantino, Partner at Cadiz Tabayoyong Hilado and Constantino; Elmar B. Galacio, CFE, FCIArb, Senior Partner and Deputy Managing Partner at Cruz Marcelo & Tenefrancia; Arleo Antonio Magtibay, Jr., Executive Director of the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc.; and Carla Pingul, Partner at Cruz Marcelo & Tenefrancia.
PIArb is the first learned society in the Philippines dedicated to both promoting private dispute resolution within the country, as well as pursuing initiatives to enable the country to serve as a viable and practical venue for alternative dispute resolution.
