Santamarina y Steta Legal 500 Rankings

Published on Oct 30, 2020

Santamarina y Steta fields a 20-strong labour department that operates form the firm's Mexico City, Monterrey and Querétaro offices. Juan Carlos de la Vega (Monterrey and Mexico City) and Andrés Rodríguez - considered by some as ‘one of the best labour lawyers in Mexico'- co-head the team, which provides high-level expertise regarding transactional matters, collective bargaining agreements, health and safety, social security and litigation. The firm is currently representing a number of clients (in various sectors), against a series of cases by national unions seeking to obtain recognition as representative of significant employee numbers, and hence party to the respective collective bargaining agreements. Employee / union conflict specialist Pedro Velasco and Francisco Udave (who specialises in representing management in high-profile cases filed by top executives) are also key practice partners. A strong associate group includes Álvaro Álvarez (collective and individual labour matters, both advisory and contentious), who was promoted to counsel in January 2020; senior associates Víctor Hugo Coria (in Querétaro) and Ernesto de la Puente; and associates Raquel Ortiz and Nicolás Acevedo in Monterrey. However, former senior Miguel Ángel Cantú moved to Chevez, Ruiz, Zamarripa y Cia SC as practice director in March 2020.

Testimonials

The Santamarina and Steta labour team is a strong team, very united, with impressive communication between them and with their clients; they’re always true partners of their clients, where any company can feel safe being represented by them and with the tranquility that they will act under the highest standards of integrity.

Their knowledge of the matter and their relationship with the labour authority has been critical in the issues they have faced. They give excellent results both in day-to-day matters and in extremely delicate and complex matters. Partner Andrés Rodríguez is one of the best labour lawyers in Mexico.

In addition to his great capacity as a litigator and consultant on the matter, Andrés has known how to mentor high-level lawyers within his team and lawyers who are now partners in top-level law firms. Andes is an innovative, intelligent, proactive lawyer, but above all reliable. In turn, Ernesto de la Puente, who is an associate in the firm, is a very talented lawyer, always looking for options on how to get the best result in the correct way, his answers being of high quality and efficiency.

Santamarina & Steta advises on labor matters to several of the group’s universities, mainly UVM. In my opinion, a very good office, with experience in the education sector. In my opinion, the labour partner Andrés Rodríguez is one of the best labour professionals the country has, he has excellent labour criteria, he is a good litigator.
