WLG | impact '24: Giving Back in New York City

Published on May 9, 2024

Did you know that the average family in the United States will spend nearly USD 600 per child in preparation for their back-to-school season? During WLG | regional New York '24, our delegates made a positive local impact through a backpack and supplies donation activity. Along with graciously offering space in their New York offices, Locke Lord LLP arranged this fantastic avenue to give back to our host community as part of WLG | impact.

The Port Richmond School for Visionary Learning, which Locke Lord supports through its internal CSR activities, educates children from kindergarten through fifth grade and reports that 80% of its students come from economically disadvantaged homes.

To aid in easing the burden at the outset of the upcoming academic year, delegates packed 48 backpacks with the necessities (school supplies) for learning. Backpacks were organized and packed with colorful folders, scissors, pencil cases, and more, creating a rainbow of opportunities for the students who eventually unzip them. As a special touch, delegates wrote heartwarming notes of encouragement to place inside the bags.

Everyone worked together, chatting throughout the activity and were thrilled for an opportunity to enrich the lives of young students through a small gesture that will make a large impact for many families.
