Singapore: WongPartnership Involved in a Matter Recognized as an “Impact Case Winner” at Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific Awards 2023
WongPartnership’s involvement in the “PDV Marina wind-up” matter was recognised at the 2023 Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific Awards, where the matter was awarded “Impact Case Winner”.
WongPartnership is acting for a large Japanese conglomerate and has successfully recovered an eight-figure sum from PDV Marina, a Venezuela state-owned entity. The “PDV Marina wind-up” matter also involves a number of other cross-border disputes against a backdrop of economic sanctions against Venezuela. In Singapore, there were eight other creditors who had commenced enforcement proceedings against PDV Marina. The Court was faced with novel legal issues, including how to deal with multiple judgment creditors who had simultaneously obtained provisional garnishee orders.
Our Head of Restructuring & Insolvency Smitha Menon and Counsel Adnaan Noor led the Firm’s team in the matter.
The Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific Awards aims to provide law firm and lawyer rankings in the context of the cases in the market and firm developments across the region. Research for the awards is conducted through interviews with litigators, dispute resolution specialists and clients to identify leading litigators and firms.
