MinterEllison (Australia) continued to participate in the The Chancery Lane Project for WLG | impact '23.
The Chancery Lane Project (TCLP) is a global network of lawyers and business leaders working together to use the power of commercial contracts to fight climate change and deliver decarbonisation in a fast and fair way. MinterEllison Senior Associate, Phoebe Roberts is the TCLP Global Director of Implementation and co-lead of APAC, alongside Senior Associate, Charlotte Turner. In 2022/23, Phoebe is also leading TCLP’s Built Environment workstream, including the strategic design and implementation of the Built Environment Sector Engagement Strategy, working closely with some of Europe's and the UK's largest and most significant Built Environment actors.
TCLP provides contractual clauses, glossary terms and tools that are free of charge and ready to use. Many MinterEllison lawyers are both leading Australian-based projects, and heavily involved with the project on a pro bono or low bono basis, including in translating the clauses into Australian law and promoting the use of these clauses across sectors. This work is a salient example of pro bono work which assists to develop commercial skills (climate-aligned contract drafting) for use in the ESG space—to the benefit of the fee-paying practice as we broaden our skill set for our client offering.
In addition, Phoebe regularly convenes and delivers workshops across APAC, the UK, and Europe with lawyers and industry experts to address climate change related risks and embed climate solutions into commercial contracts. Leveraging the thought-leadership of the TCLP and working with other jurisdictions to create new market norms to bring about change and ensure the transition to net zero is assisted through climate conscious contracting, MinterEllison is supporting the legal industry's role in APAC to progress and accelerate the transition to a low carbon economy.
